A novel that combines historical facts with literary myth formation, occurring at different points of time in the period between 1875 and 1914, the period in which Freud and Breuer were developing psychoanalysis. Son of a French officer and marked by the traumas of his youth, Alain Lefèvre lives a double life as a spy in Paris and Vienna. Repressed tension between past and present leads to complete collapse, in parallel with the turbulent historical setting.
